Members of Likud Party Advocate for Easing Conditions for Extremist Convicted of Killing Palestinian Family

A group of coalition lawmakers, including over half from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, has called for the relaxation of prison conditions for Amiram Ben Uliel, a right-wing extremist convicted of the 2015 arson attack that claimed the lives of three members of a Palestinian family.

The lawmakers made their appeal on behalf of Ben Uliel to Shin Bet security chief Ronen Bar. Ben Uliel was sentenced to three life sentences plus an additional 20 years for his involvement in the deadly firebombing in the West Bank village of Duma. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of Riham and Saad Dawabsha, along with their 18-month-old son, Ali Saad. Their elder son, Ahmed, survived the terror attack but sustained severe burns; he was just 5 years old at the time.

In 2020, Ben Uliel was found guilty of three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, arson, and conspiracy to commit a racially motivated crime, all as part of a "terrorist act."
